Peony Emporium is a Peta approved vegan and cruelty-free online boutique. With head office located in Toronto, Ontario, they specialize in wedding dresses, bridesmaids, mother of the bride/groom and evening wear.

The brand designs and manufacture in their own factory in Canada and their designs are directly available to consumers through their website. Skipping the extra step of  retailing  allows Peony Emporium to avoid overhead costs and guarantee their customers savings of  30-60% off  without compromising on quality.

Featured: Jordan – more than 50 yards of tulle, combined with cascading horsehair trim gives the skirt its frothy volume. The bodice of this ballet-inspired wedding dress is structured for support.

Peony Emporium was founded by Belinda and Gretchen, two vegetarian social entrepreneurs. I corresponded with Belinda to ask her a few questions.

What inspired you to make Peony Emporium exclusively vegan?

Gretchen and I believe high quality fashion should not cost the lives of animals, hence all of our dresses are vegan and are manufactured in a factory that does not produce leather or fur.

Featured: Nancy – a tulle ball gown wedding dress that’s as elegant as it is timeless. Graceful swag sleeves complement a sweetheart neckline. Modern day princess dress.

Featured: Winnie – this breathtaking sweetheart strapless tulle ball gown is the marriage of couture drama and bridal elegance. Three light and airy tiers of horsehair-sculpted tulle create volume and grandeur without the weight.

Since you’re exclusively selling online, how does the bridal fitting work?

The bride can find the best fit following our size chart on our website. Then we have a list of seamstresses that we recommend to our clients if any alterations are needed.

What materials do you use for your dresses? Where do you source your textiles?

We mainly use synthetic chiffon and tulle made in China.

Can Canadian brides find you at bridal shows?

Yes! We just exhibited at Canada’s Bridal Show in September and 4 of our dresses were featured on the runway.

Some designers have started to skip the continuous release of seasonal collections, what’s your view on that at Peony Emporium?

We prefer focusing on capsule collection style. We like timeless designs!

Featured: Chloe – simple, elegant, and of-the-moment, this slim lace beaded chiffon sheath gown mesmerizes with a clean neckline, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a flatteringly draped skirt with a slit to show off your long beautiful leg.

A feminist and independent spirit since she could remember (her childhood heroines were Pippi Longstockings and Katharine Hepburn) Daniela Degrassi found her creative outlet as a lifestyle photographer, working mainly in Northern California where she lived for 15 years before moving back to her native Italy to continue to be her autistic sister’s primary caregiver. Vegan since 2014, she found a perfect way to carry her message of compassion while celebrating her love for the wedding industry launching The Kind Bride in February 2018.
