Just like Spring, Ethical Wedding Fairs are starting to bloom around the world. It’s so heartwarming to see bride’s interest in more ethical practices while planning their wedding. An ethical wedding stands for many things: supporting local vendors, choosing fair trade products, attention to zero waste solutions and for animal lovers like us, seeking a plant based banquet and all those details that make a wedding vegan approved!
UK sustainably minded brides should rejoice… the first Ethical Wedding Fair is coming to Birmingham in just a few days! The event was conceived by Birgit Kehrer, founder of Change Kitchen, a vegetarian and vegan catering company that’s been serving her community since 2010.
I briefly talked to Birgit on the phone to learn what inspired her to plan the event:
” have been wanting to put on an Ethical Wedding Fair for over 5 years and am excited to now be working on this with I’SE as part of CityDrive 19 to be seeing it to fruition. Having delivered ethical wedding catering for over 20 years, I more and more realized that brides and grooms loved getting ethical suppliers for their wedding and were looking to source as many of the services as possible from ethical companies. Putting this fair together means they will find it easier to find many services at one place and can talk to the suppliers directly”.
Birgit brought her dream project to the attention of iSE – Initiative for Social Entrepreneurs (a social enterprise development initiative supporting the development of sustainable social enterprises and businesses that ‘do good’), and they where more than happy to help organize the event.
The Ethical Wedding Fair will help couples design an alternative wedding that is socially and environmentally conscious, that supports small, local businesses and social enterprises that do good for both people and planet.
Throughout the day there’ll be interesting talks, interactive session and demos on all things ethical, social enterprise and alternative. Find out how you can create ‘good’ wedding gift lists, reduce wedding waster, support causes and use suppliers who care.
Your free ticket gives you entry to the stunning historic venue and grounds of Blakesley Hall so you can wander, dream and discover a unique Birmingham wedding venue.

A feminist and independent spirit since she could remember (her childhood heroines were Pippi Longstockings and Katharine Hepburn) Daniela Degrassi found her creative outlet as a lifestyle photographer, working mainly in Northern California where she lived for 15 years before moving back to her native Italy to continue to be her autistic sister’s primary caregiver. Vegan since 2014, she found a perfect way to carry her message of compassion while celebrating her love for the wedding industry launching The Kind Bride in February 2018.
