Vegan brides are blesses with the best wedding cakes! Not only tasty and beautiful to look at, vegan desserts are usually healthier options, not containing any of those nasty and dangerous saturated animal fats, which clearly don’t belong in our diet.
I am sure many regular bakers will comply to a request to ‘veganize’ a wedding cake, but with this post, I want to celebrate 5 wedding cake artists from around the world, and learn about their life journey leading them to baking these fabulous cruelty-free cakes that sparkle so much joy at a party!
‘Rawism’ is a dietary practice of eating only uncooked, unprocessed foods. It is considered by many the purest form of nutrition. So, we can conclude that while eating a raw cake we are not just pleasing our taste buds but we’re also doing a favor to our overall health. A dream come true… guilt-free desserts!
Lisa Harding was diagnosed with chronic fatigue when she was only 18. After 6 years enduring anti-depressant prescriptions she knew she had to find a natural alternative to cure her condition. She healed herself through a long process of testing and eliminating processed foods such as gluten and dairies and along the way she found her passion for raw desserts.
She now runs Love Raw Self in Perth, Australia since 2016. By looking at her cakes it’s hard to believe that not only they are vegan and raw, but also 100% gluten and refined sugar free. While she serves her community offering a vast selection of cakes and small bites that are available in local shops and online, the preparation of her wedding cakes require a consultation with the bride and groom to customize a cake that matches their personal taste and wedding theme. Lisa usually decorates the cakes on the wedding site to also match the atmosphere of the reception venue. Follow Lisa on Instagram for your dose of daily magic!
RUBY’S OF LONDON
Ruby’s love for baking began at a very early age with many of her childhood memories made in the kitchen. Due to a childhood dairy and egg allergy she was often left with the uninspiring free from option while looking longingly at the birthday girls glorious cakes. That’s where her passion and flair for edible works of art began and she has been creating ever since. She had been baking vegan products for many years when she decided to take a stall at Greenwich Market in London. It was an instant success.
Ruby’s is dedicated to producing high quality products using only the finest ingredients, making products taste as delicious as they look. A true believer of the importance of the handmade element of baking, this is central to Ruby’s business ethos, therefore everything is freshly made to order.
In 2013, Ruby’s was honored with the British Baker Product Innovation Award. Along side the spectacular selection of pastries (which in recent years became such a popular alternative to wedding cakes), Ruby’s getting ready to make the vegan wedding cake you’ve always dreamed of. Ruby’s just announced the launch of bespoke wedding cakes this year! Just in time for your London wedding! Stay tuned via their Instagram profile!
Danielle Konya, founder of Vegan Treats is a passionate animal rights activist and for the past 15 years she has been convincing a vast East Coast audience that vegan desserts are heavenly delicatessens.
Baking as Activism? Who would’ve thought? Danielle always says, “Compassion starts with your fork”. Indeed, the very lucky residents of NYC, Washington DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia anxiously await her deliveries at area restaurants and cafes each week. (People have been known to plan their days around the arrival of her doughnuts!)
I am not exaggerating. In 2012 American Express Departures Magazine named Vegan Treats Bakery one of the top 10 bakeries in the entire world. And no, that doesn’t mean one of the best VEGAN bakeries in the world, that means one of the best BAKERIES. Period.
Vegan Treats goes the cruelty-free route and satisfies both the palate and the conscience, inextricably linking the business of dessert with the ethics of caring about animals. After all, how many other businesses actively support animal advocacy groups like Farm Sanctuary, The American Anti-Vivisection Society and the Humane Society of the United States? And how many other bakers carefully choose their ingredients with taste and the well being of the earth and animals in mind?
So in a small but meaningful way, with each bite you take of delicious Vegan Treats we are one step closer to a more ethical and humane way of living. Luckily for us, compassion has never tasted so delicious.
Vegan Treats has an irresistible Instagram account, filled with loads of inspiration fresh from their ovens, from themed treats for the holidays, scary Halloween candies and gorgeously looking sweets. A must follow.

MY LITTLE PANDA KITCHEN
Our quick trip around the world takes us back to Australia, this time on Sidney’s shores.
MLPK was started with a desire to share how amazing food can be without the addition of animals products, and to share founder Annabelle McMillan’s Indonesian heritage and culture through food. Annabelle’s reasons for being vegan are endless. “It’s better for your health, it’s better for the environment, and the unnecessary torture and slaughter of animals is totally not cool”.
You can find Annabelle and her all-women team at the Maker Kitchen (which she founded partnering with The Vegan Teahouse) a community focused enterprise offering 100% vegan shared commercial kitchen to help kick start small businesses dreams, an educational space with weekly workshops and a coffee bar. Sounds like a great place to hang out and get your morning coffee and treats, while actively pursuing your career goals! Plus you can rely on Annabelle to make your personalized, unique, wedding cake! Enjoy Annabelle’s full spectrum of creativity on her Instagram account.
I hope you enjoyed this mouth-watering trip getting to know some of the best vegan bakeries around the world. As usual, I welcome you to share your own discoveries in the comment area (use the link below this blog post title) and I’ll never rest to keep search for more.
A feminist and independent spirit since she could remember (her childhood heroines were Pippi Longstockings and Katharine Hepburn) Daniela Degrassi found her creative outlet as a lifestyle photographer, working mainly in Northern California where she lived for 15 years before moving back to her native Italy to continue to be her autistic sister’s primary caregiver. Vegan since 2014, she found a perfect way to carry her message of compassion while celebrating her love for the wedding industry launching The Kind Bride in February 2018.
