Engagement season is upon us! How many rings will be sealing promises of love in every corner of our beautiful planet this year? To be in perfect harmony with our Mother Earth, at The Kind Bride, we are especially devoted to promote jewelers committed to sourcing the finest materials, created through sustainable practices. And if the artist’s name is Arabel Lebrusan, I am especially bias. The first time I laid my eye on her creations I was mesmerized by their unique designs, clearly evoking Arabel’s Spanish heritage. I had the pleasure to interview the UK based jeweler in 2016 and since then, I have witnessed her business thrive and continuing to evolve.

This month, Arabel Lebrusan has launched a new engagement ring collection to celebrate the goddess within, and individual pieces are this time inspired and named for well-loved goddesses in Greek Mythology. So let’s unveil the ‘Hera Collection’  and learn all about it!

Diamond/Platinum, Emerald/Platinum, Ruby/Platinum, Lab-grownDiamond/Platinum

The Hera Collection is a selection of ethical engagement rings in designs including bezel-set solitaire and trilogy arrangements of traceable Canadian diamonds and Malawi sapphires and rubies. The rings are crafted from ethical 18 carat gold or platinum.

“An engagement is such a special time in two people’s lives, and the Hera Collection of engagement rings is a reflection and celebration of women as goddesses. In designing these unique pieces, my inspiration was the goddesses of Greek mythology, but also the goddess in each of us. The shoulders of each ring bear beautiful scrolls, exquisitely hand-engraved by artisans in the heart of London’s famed jewelery district, Hatton Garden. I am so proud to have worked with these fine jewelers on this very special Collection.” says Arabel.

I my previous interview with Arabel I asked her where she draws inspiration for her unique pieces.

“My jewelry designs take direct inspiration from my Spanish roots, heritage and timeless fashion. I love to look at traditional cultures and customs and transform them into modern concepts. My jewelry combines the new and the old, with collections weaving between a softer vintage look or boho-chic and well defined, contemporary shapes. In my designs, I push the boundaries of what wire can do and the scale of it. How it can be used to create large standout pieces that give the impression of weight and toughness, but in reality are light and fluid with a feminine feel.”

Her passion for jewelry started at a young age…

“As a little girl I was fascinated by my mother’s jewelry. She owned this amazing yellow gold pendant featuring an eagle clasping a sapphire in its claws. My mother used to wear it on special occasions.  This one elegant, timeless and beautiful crafted piece got me hooked on my love for one-of kind jewelry. It inspired me to want to learn everything about gemstones, jewelry and sculptural techniques and to want to design my own jewels… My jewelry journey began when I started working in the Far East as a fashion jewelry designer in my late twenties. Seeing the world of mass production and the abuse of natural resources in jewelry made me think “this is not sustainable…” “I want to find another way…” “This cannot be my trade”! Since then, “ethical” has been the only choice for me (yes, I am quite stubborn) from coming to the UK to do my Masters at Central St. Martins specifically in ethical jewelry, to setting up my own company selling ethical jewelry.”

Collection after collection Arabel Lebrusan established herself among the most prestigious ethical jewelry designers in UK and beyond. Just take a look at some of her previous work.

A feminist and independent spirit since she could remember (her childhood heroines were Pippi Longstockings and Katharine Hepburn) Daniela Degrassi found her creative outlet as a lifestyle photographer, working mainly in Northern California where she lived for 15 years before moving back to her native Italy to continue to be her autistic sister’s primary caregiver. Vegan since 2014, she found a perfect way to carry her message of compassion while celebrating her love for the wedding industry launching The Kind Bride in February 2018.
