Hello happy couples as you read this in the midst of planning for your big day! It brings me great joy to join The Kind Bride team. It’s my goal to bring all the inspiration, and trends relating to bridal beauty along with information aiding in the planning process to create that completely gorgeous look while upholding vegan values. You may be asking yourself who am I and why should you take my word on anything? Valid questions so let me elaborate!
My name is Ashley Peters and I am the on-site bridal and destination stylist behind @thestylistabroad. I have worked with brides both domestic (USA) and around the world; hair of all types and weddings of all sizes. Creating completely unique and customized looks as individualized as the brides themselves. Ironically I did not start in hair many years ago but instead studied studio art. My mother is a hairstylist and as if I couldn’t have been more cliché I presented absolutely no interest. It was after college by working with a photographer friend for a photoshoot project where she needed my hands to create a creative concept for the hair and makeup that the wheels started turning. Call it fate or the universe but the right doors opened as others closed and opportunities presented themselves all landing me in cosmetology school. Fast forward many moons later where I had a chance to work in weddings. Prior to this moment I had never really considered this avenue (noticing a trend?). Once I started working in weddings it wasn’t long before I fell in love with the art of bridal beauty. Knowledge from art school regarding movement, balance and overall composure intertwined with curls, braiding and updos propelled the bridal creations beyond just hair. I truly believe you can sense the personality of the lovely lady in the style. Not only do I love creating such work, but I love weddings. There is something incredibly special about being part of such a monumental day that will be remembered forever in photos, memories and so on. All of this just gives me a complete warm and fuzzy feeling deep inside; which I personally think is essential to truly deliver beyond just a service.
What about the vegan bit? Yes, I am vegan but no I have not always been on team herbivore. I grew up in the Mid-West where cheese is king with queen beef. So yes I used to be quiet carnivorous . It was years later after a lot of traveling and seeing the juxtaposition of “acceptable” meat sources in some countries versus others made me question my own choices. I looked upon my two dogs horrified to think they could ever be considered food to anyone anywhere. Needless to say my husband and I rather quickly stepped into a pescatarian lifestyle which soon led to cutting out dairy, then fish and eggs. At the point when only crustaceans were left we reflected “what are we holding on to?”. Clearly then we went full fledge vegan and couldn’t imagine it any other way. Only wish we would have done it sooner! Now we use all vegan products and have always used cruelty free products, (not the same though more on that later). It’s always been a firm belief of mine that nothing should suffer for our beauty. Vegan beauty is just as effective and even more beautiful than the alternative, (IMHO) but then again you already knew that, right?
So what’s my role here? I want you to be up to date on all the latest, newest trends in the bridal beauty world with a vegan application. I will take out all the stress you may be feeling not only to plan your big day but also to ensure it’s fits our vegan lifestyle. If there is a specific area of bridal beauty planning you have a question about please do not hesitate to reach out via email or instagram. I’m happy to answer all your burning questions and who knows, it may even turn into an article! Thank you for welcoming me to this community and taking the time to read this little love note. I look forward to helping you with my bridal beauty knowledge with a vegan perspective. Stay tuned for more to come. Don’t be a stranger and happy planning.
