Set on the gorgeous shores of Vancouver’s Sunshine Coast  we are especially honored to share the intimate vegan wedding of Janine and Lucas captured on camera by husband and wife team Jennifer Picard and Brian Thompson, of Jennifer Picard — Wedding Photography & Cinematic Films (as seen in our British Columbia Vegan Wedding Directory). As a vegan couple themselves, Jennifer and Brian are the most happy when they can create everlasting memories at vegan weddings. To them, it’s one of the truest expressions of love, compassion and connection.  We couldn’t agree more, and are truly grateful to share the newlyweds story through the exquisite images of Jennifer & Brian. But first, hear from the bride herself on how their romance began…

Janine and Lucas Story

“Lucas and I have known each other since we were 10-year-old kids! Our parents were friends and would get us together to play. We both were secretly in love since the moment we met, but never dared to tell each other.

Life took us separate ways for over 15 years. Lucas developed his professional career in Austria as an Industrial Designer, and I lived most of my life in Argentina, got my degree as an Architect and traveled all over the world.

Until three years ago we re-encountered in Argentina and that was it! We found in each other what we had always been waiting for. We share so much, and at the same time are so complimentary.

We started a design business together in Argentina, did very well, but 2 years ago, after a very special trip to India, we had a very strong gut feeling we had to come to Vancouver (the place where I was born, I am originally Canadian). So we left everything behind in Argentina to come here. These past years together have without a doubt been the best of our lives!

We are so grateful for everything we are experiencing and sharing together. We both also are volunteers for a world wide non-profit organization, The Art of Living, through which we teach breathing techniques, meditation and how to connect back to our true source of happiness. We both LOVE living in Vancouver. Especially all the magnificent nature around us. We love to get lost in the woods and mountains as much as we can.”

The Ceremony

The wedding was celebrated in the peaceful harbor of Henry’s Addresses in Garden Bay, British Columbia. Florals, Planning and Decor by Weddings by Sasha

The ‘family style’ menu for Janine and Lucas’ wedding menu was filled with amazing dishes and rivers of non alcoholic sparkling ginger kombucha mocktails to toast the newlyweds. Thank you to chef Brooke for sharing all the details of their menu!

First Course: Cashew cheese board, dolmades with red pepper almond spread warm marinated olives, rosemary and orange, crudités and wild fermented bread board, white bean and artichoke spread, pickle beet hummus. 

Second Course: Nectarine and Heirloom tomato salad, fresh basil, aged balsamic roasted squash and marinated kale caesar salad, confit garlic dressing, apple and pomegranate, warm broccolini salad, romesco sauce, crispy shallot.

Third Course: Loaded Portobello mushroom steaks served two ways: oven dried tomato and vegan mozzarella, avocado chimicurri, wild mushroom risotto, preserved lemon polenta fritters, ancho chili ketchup, barbecue baked beans and pulled jackfruit collard wraps, hasselback potato, spicy chimicurri.

Fourth Course: Fresh fruit and nut dark chocolate bark, candied ginger and rose petal.

Cupcakes and cake were also all vegan and made by Cheeky Monkey Cakes.

An incurable enthusiast and independent spirit since she could remember (her childhood heroines were Pippi Longstockings and Katharine Hepburn) Daniela Degrassi found her creative outlet as a lifestyle photographer, working mainly in Northern California. Currently splitting her time between SF Bay Area and her native Italy to continue to be her autistic sister’s primary caregiver. Vegan since 2014, she found a perfect way to carry her message of compassion while celebrating her love for the wedding industry launching The Kind Bride in February 2018.
