This week is time to celebrate and pamper those awesome vegan men in our lives! If you’re helping your vegan groom find the perfect shoe to wear on your wedding day, here are some fabulously stylish vegan shoe brands to consider!
It’s no secret that Italians know a thing or two about making shoes. Former Opificio V, Nemanti takes vegan shoes to the highest level possible. After rebranding, the approach to the production of Nemanti Milano is given much more vivacity by a rooted culture of respect: for animals, as all the materials used are cruelty free; for the environment, thanks to the use of plant tissue, often a by-product of recycling or reuse; for tradition and the workmanship, as demonstrated by the absence of outsourcing to other countries and by the involvement of two artisanal Italian districts from ancient and established history.
The materials used, products of careful research as ethical as it was technological, guarantee comfort, elegance and durability in the shoes: from the more traditional linen, waxed cotton and wood, to more innovative materials such as Alcantara with zero CO2 emissions and faux leather derived from the refuse of the production of grains in no food cultivations. The Spring-Summer 2018 collection will also see the use of also pellemela, a faux leather obtained from apple cores discarded by agribusiness industries, and 100% cellulose pure. How not to fall in love with their shoes?
The above LAGLIO shoe is handcrafted by artisanal cobblers in the Marche region, and features clean lines, a narrow shape and an infinitely smooth vegan leather surface. Definitely worth peaking through their whole men’s collection as you will find more choices.
The iconic Dr Martens British brand has a vegan line for men and women, easy to find in regular shoe shops around the world (just click on the ‘store finder’ on their website). My pick for this feature is the Felix Rub Off, made of a high-shine synthetic material with a premium feel and a subtle, two-tone finish. It’s a classic Dr Martens style, including grooved edges, visible stitching and heel-loop, air-cushioned sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance.
Wills is a Certified Carbon Neutral Company established in 2012 in London. I love this company because besides their care and respect for animal lives, their products are ethically made in Italy and Portugal under European Union employment, discrimination and health & safety laws. Plus, they also source their materials from nature!
These Oxfords shoes for example, are created with Italian vegan leather made with plants using bio oil sourced from organic cereal crops grown in Northern Europe in a carbon neutral process. They are breathable and water resistant, built around a beautiful handcrafted classic last shape, durable, with grippy recycled rubber outsoles. And there are plenty more styles you can chose from their men’s collection!
River Island is a socially responsible clothing company committed to the environment, ethical trading, recycling, and charity. They make many vegan options, like these faux leather Tan Brown Croc Embossed Panel Brogues
River Island is definitely the most wallet friendly option if you are on a budget.
Back in Italy, this brand is a favorite of mine. Their name means “future resources” (not a difficult translation!) Risorse Future footwear have been produced since 1955 in Monte Urano, in the Marches region. The Marches are the homeland for Made in Italy shoes (as we seen with Nemanti); the most famous Italian region in terms for its most stylish shoe production! Their shoes have always been entirely designed and made in Italy, with top-quality materials and skillfully handmade by the expert hands of craftsmen from the Marches. The entire supply chain is located in the area, allowing production to benefit from the local branches: no outside processing (nor transportation!), in a zero food miles climate! At the end of 2010, the shoe factory set up a project for eco-sustainable shoes respecting nature both in terms of materials used and of manufacturing processes, which led to the production of shoes made with vegetable materials (mostly hemp and cotton) enabling them to be classified as completely animal-free.
These DESERT HEMP summery ankle laced raw hemp shoes are the symbol of Risorse Future’s mission: raw hemp is a perfectly natural material with tones that vary depending on when the plants are harvested. This particularity gives each pair a unique and characteristic timeless appeal. They can be combined with any outfit and are adapted for all occasions (yes! such an easy wear!), making them one of their most popular products.
Their distinctive feature is the so-called “ideal” outer lining, which guarantees stability and resistance as well as comfort thanks to the padded foot straps and the crepe soles in natural rubber that can adapt to any terrain. The inner lining in cotton softly wraps up the foot, while the hemp used for the uppers guarantees the highest levels of natural breathability and very fast drying, making the Desert shoe perfect for all seasons.
But don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the Desert Shoe style, Risorse Future has given hemp a new name! Look at these vibrant, colorful options ideal for a vegan groom with a funky personality! And they would make any wedding photographer jump for joy 🙂

A feminist and independent spirit since she could remember (her childhood heroines were Pippi Longstockings and Katharine Hepburn) Daniela Degrassi found her creative outlet as a lifestyle photographer, working mainly in Northern California where she lived for 15 years before moving back to her native Italy to continue to be her autistic sister’s primary caregiver. Vegan since 2014, she found a perfect way to carry her message of compassion while celebrating her love for the wedding industry launching The Kind Bride in February 2018.
