Looking for a one-stop for an intimate wedding and honeymoon? These days a one stop destination sounds like the perfect solution during the complicated times we live in! Being surrounded by serene and breathtaking nature is an ideal scenario for a ‘social distancing style’ love celebration, leading you to a relaxing honeymoon. Well, at The Kind Bride, we just found the perfect spot, nested in paradisal Hawaiian tropical rainforest in Big Island.

.Volcano Eco Retreat is a unique small hotel dedicated to showcasing ethical luxury. Designed for vegans and sustainability enthusiasts, it balances the building’s traditional Hawaiian-Polynesian origins with modern amenities to offer a luxurious yet environmentally and vegan-friendly experience.

.
Volcano Eco Retreat is a women and minority owned and LGBTQ+ friendly, and the first location of Heart Core Hotels,  a collection of vegan and eco-friendly independent boutique hotels.

The LEED certified bamboo complex set over 4 acres of native Hawaiian tropical rainforest features 4 individual bungalows styled with vegan friendly linens and locally sourced wood and bamboo furnishings.  No part of their room décor nor amenities features animal derived materials, and toiletries are cruelty free and vegan.

Using only refillable water bottles and biodegradable bamboo straws,  Volcano Eco Retreat breakfast is 100% plant-based and showcases local and home grown produce – all washed down with locally sourced Hawaiian coffee and Hawaiian style mimosa cocktails.  The menu changes daily depending on seasonality and availability of ingredients. It’s always inspired by the beautiful Hawaiian ʻāina (land) as well as the owner’s travels across 6 continents. Their most popular dishes include: piña colada pancakes with Royal Hawaiian pineapple, local macadamia nuts and coconut; whole wheat spinach waffles with organic apple bananas; breakfast tacos with tofu scramble, all-vegan refried beans and mango salsa; home-grown papaya boats filled with frozen açaí, topped with pineapple granola; Hāmākua mushroom tofu and garbanzo frittata; chia puddings; overnight oats; dried jackfruit and organic cocoa energy balls, and more!
.
.
Volcano Eco Retreat supports and sources a lot of the produce from a local non-profit which connects them with struggling local farmers. They have a small organic garden and fruit trees on the property, too. In addition, the retreat is one of the very few dog friendly lodgings in Hawaii so you can bring your furry family along!

An incurable enthusiast and independent spirit since she could remember (her childhood heroines were Pippi Longstockings and Katharine Hepburn) Daniela Degrassi found her creative outlet as a lifestyle photographer, working mainly in Northern California. Currently splitting her time between SF Bay Area and her native Italy to continue to be her autistic sister’s primary caregiver. Vegan since 2014, she found a perfect way to carry her message of compassion while celebrating her love for the wedding industry launching The Kind Bride in February 2018.
